This page is part of an actual book about Giving the Finger...I bought it for my stepdad a few years back and it was actually pretty funny.
(He himself favors the 'right hand on bicep slap, left hand forcefully jabbing middle finger skywards' technique. I myself prefer the "Peeling The Banana" move, and my brother is a proponent of the "Middle Finger Nose Scratch". We are a classy and charming family.)
I am re-reading P.G. Wodehouse (if you haven't read him- do yourself a favor and do it- do it now) and I notice he uses the term "the bird" when someone gets the brushoff...his usage is more of a sentiment than a gesture...I don't think the fine scholars at Ooze magazine noticed that historical tidbit of info however...
