Readin' Round Up
Since it's so ungodly hot I'm going to be brave and put on a swimsuit and kick it in my POOL later today (The only other interaction I've had with our condo's pool is scooping drowning bugs out of it) and reading.
I'm currently reading The Life Of Pi which I love so much I can't bear for it to end. It's about a young Indian boy with a thing for comparative religeon who survives a shipwreck and is stranded on a lifeboat with a bengal tiger. It's gorgeous.
I just finished "Memoirs Of A Geisha" which I expected to love but I thought it was just ok. I sort of speed read it because I found parts ponderous, so it's possible I didn't give it a fair shake.
I also just read "Fluke" by Christopher Moore. He wrote "Lamb" which is one of the funniest, most charming-in-a-very-naughty-way books I've ever read and "Lamb" is definitely Moore's masterpiece. "Fluke" is a very entertaining read but I thought it was just ok. A good beach read, as they say.
Before that I read "Zodiac" by Neil Stephenson who is an author who blows me away from his ability to write in so many styles. I really liked the cyberpunky "Snow Crash", LOVED steampunky "The Diamond Age", could not get into "Quicksilver" for the life of me, and was very entertained by "Zodiac" could qualify as a beachy read- but it has great suspense in it and the main character is a likable grouch who fucks up big corporation's illegal dumping practices which such glee that's it's rather cathartic.

New blogs I've been checking out are John Shirley's blog.
It's frikkin HOT out. No likey. Blogger seems to be busted and I can't post any pics of the wonderous and disgusting parasites I just learned about on a marvelous show on Animal Planet called "Wierd Nature". I recommend the show highly, because it's pretty funny. Where else can you learn about the resourceful little candiru fish- a parasite who lives in rivers and in the gills of catfish, but sometimes swim up human uh...urethras.. when one is peeing in the river (the scent of ammonia and urea, found in catfish gills, attracts them) AND see hilarious footage of DRUNKEN, BOOZE THIEVING MONKEYS?

Artist Lisa Petrucci has a line of new stickers coming out, made by a vending machine company- one of the designs they chose was a painting Lisa did of me and Monkey(Top left) now my kiddle-ized image will be in vending machines in lower rent malls across the country...I'm psyched!
