Learn to beat the crap out of an assailant using your trusty umbrella, like a true gentleman would.
One Hand Clapping (The Other Giving The Finger)
I'm pretty interested by all the spittle flying around over Mel Gibson's "The Passion". I watched and read a few interviews and reviews...I'm looking forward to seeing it, and I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction to this film a year or so down the road when all the hype and freakout has died down. I'm pretty much agnostic verging on atheistic...but I don't know what those terms even mean anymore- and there doesn't seem to be a term for what I really think...maybe I'm buddist. I don't know- and I guess I don't care either. It ALL makes sense and sounds like complete bullshit to me, all at the same time.
Anyhoo- I love the story of Christ- what an gorgeous story. The idea that someone would endure such brutal torture and not want revenge is an important watershed in human thought. Someone who clued into something profound and joyous and wanted us all to know that things could be wonderful. And I THINK that that is what this film is about...someone trying to stop the wheel of karma so to speak. I dig that Mel made it violent- Jesus death was horrific- and I think that needs to be understood to appreciate the full effect of what he did- it wasn't all rosy cherubs and glittering sacred hearts. That seems to be the galvanizing point to all the criticism-the violence.
Then again...I'm not so sure that I personally really want to see a Jesus snuff flick either. I guess I'll report back when I see it.
Here are some reviews:
Salon (bad)
USA Today (assorted reviews from all over the place)
By the way- I thought "The Last Temptation of Christ" was ok as a film- but the book is phenomenal. I enjoyed the film "Kundun" about the Dalai Lama quite a bit. I think the most spiritual film I've ever seen was "Baraka" quite frankly, and that had nothing to do with "god" (and everything at the same time)
Any other recommendations?

Darwin Strikes Again
So...this guy kept a bunch of exotic pets loose in his house- including a pet BLACK WIDOW SPIDER (named "Bettina") who untimately kills him. He dies- and the rest of his insect and reptile menagerie eat him. Heh heh heh. I don't know why- but I think that's funny. I mean...DUH!
This article has a GREAT description (if dubious,) of the finding of the body a few weeks later....Urp!
Ah cruel as she is beautiful....

I stumbled across this amazing japanese artist,Nanami Rio, the other day...I don't know anything about her (yet!) but her work is astounding....

Good god Almighty
We just finished our three day marathon hell move into our new place. I don't think I've been that tired in YEARS. HOW did we get SO MUCH CRAP? At anyrate- our new place rocks. It's really super...I'll post a nice comparison pic soon- so you can check out the transformation of the low rent O.G. Brady Bunch look transmogrified into a Lowbrow paradise.
Until then- lookit this- you can order shirts that look like you are fully sleeved out. While it actually sorta looks cool- I also think it's pretty wussy. I'd be scared of someone who wore these.
